Konkani Film O MARIA completes 25 weeks (Silver Jubilee)

O MARIA completes 25 weeks (Silver Jubilee)

At Inox multiplex, panjim Goa.
It was first released on 19th December 2010.
It’s a film by Rajendra Talak and music by Padmashree Remo Fernandes.

On 3rd June show, many artistes from the Film O MARIA
were present including the leading Role Shernaz Patel,
Sulabha Arya,  Meenacshi Martins, Aryan Khedekar,
Kevin D'mello, John D'Silva etc
Sadly, I could not catch them all on my camera inside the auditorium as the area (near screen) where they all lined up, was not properly lit.

It was houseful show and everyone served with sweet ‘ladoos’ (my favourite).

Congratulations to Rajendra Talak and his entire team.
Everyone did their best – So real! So natural!

A must watch by all Goans for it has a message too

Long Live Konkani Cinema

Some pics and clips

O Maria

Premiere Show at Kala Academy (IFFI 2010)
On 30th Nov. 2010 at 5.30pm
With full film cast
It’s all about Goa.
including Gumott, Guitar & Cantar
Insiders/outsiders, land deals, property disputes, drugs, Casino etc etc

In another words, it’s another wake up call
to save what's little left of Goa.
Movie is good and highly recommneded.
Roseferns and Com John D’ Silva also played cameo roles
John is ‘pedo/Sancristao’ and says ‘ i am very busy, I have a funeral at 3.30

 and a wedding at 5’

But our Bollywood comedian ‘Tiku Talsania’ got most applause for his Konkani/Marati/Hindi/English talk.

Maria’s role played well.
Maria, a middle aged spinsters who looks after her sick mother who is bedridden.
The bedridden mother’s role was good too (another bollywood actress Sulabha Arya?)
She did not utter a word yet her role was so natural
The role brought some tears in my eyes as it reminded me of my mother in the bed..
Kevin D'Mello role of a 'cool boy' was also good. He mostly stays with his aunt Maria and his grand mother.
Maria's brother was 'Roseferns' who wanted to sell his ancestors' beach side property to a foreigner.
But he could not do so without his sister Maria's signature...

Roseferns's widow, a typical Philomena acting was natural too (Meenacshi Martins)

The foreigner (the leading role) played by a foreigner who puts up with Maria’s as paying guest.

Music was good too with some Remo’s popular songs playing in the background
Looks like some songs are taken off (I am not too sure about it)
We may be able to watch the whole movie when it releases on 19th Dec. this year.

The film started at 5.43pm and ended at around 7.20pm
(With no break)
The show was houseful. 50 tickets were left 24 hours before the show starts.

Entire film cast was present at the show except ‘Maria’ (and Tiku?)
All of them were called up on the stage before the show
See the complete pic /Video (with about 25)
Roseferns and John D’ Silva also seen

Extra:
When the PI and the Havaldar left the doctor's cabin, the havaldar
seen saluting the doctor as they normally do to their superiors.

Looks like something I did not get right.
Why Maria's brother and his family living in a hut like house when they have a very big
portuguese type house where Maria and her mother lives?

Just two days ago, some film cast along with the director seen at Kingfisher village
seating in the VIP lounge. At that time the director handed over a CD to be played

(a fim song by Remo), don't remember listening to this song at the premier.
It goes like this
MAKA NAKA TUKA NAKA TEKA NAK TIKA NAKA
TEMKAM NAKA AMKAM NAKA HEM 'POLUTION'

Holant Beach (2.6.11)

Welcome to Holant beach

A beautiful picnic spot, a sort of natural and safe sea water swimming pool for both young and old.
And to add to your safety, there are two lifeguards too since 2009 closely watching your every movement at sea.

This is a small beach often busy all days of the week but if possible avoid the crowded weekends.
The beach is mainly visited by locals (Goans) making a very popular picnic spot which includes bathing.
Today Thursday 2.6.11,  we visited the beach around noon.
Perhaps, the last day of the summer as it started raining almost all night 2.6.11

We had bath and then we had  lunch at the only restaurant Copacabana on the beach.

We had our Goan Xit-coddi there for Rs.70 per person. The Mackerel curry was
so good that I end up  drinking all the leftover from the curry bowl,
(Reminded me of the comedy by Com. John d’ Silva)

Shri Chandreshwar Bhootnath Temple, Paroda Hill

Shri Chandreshwar Bhootnath Temple, Paroda Hill

I always wanted to go up there to visit the temple
Fiaally, we made it on 30th May 2011

You must have seen the beautiful entry gate towards your right
while travelling to Quepem etc
Downhill, there is a small village too.

The ancient Chandreshwar Temple or Chandranath Temple located
at Paroda Parvat (mountain/ Hill) the road / gate to the temple seen
on the way to Quepem etc

It is said Shri Chandreshwar Temple atop the Chandranath Hill dates
from the pre-Christian era, when this region formed part of the
Boja capital of Chandrapur (today's Chandor).
It’s about 15 kms from Margao

There are about 450 steps with railings.
Although one can reach up there by car etc, one still has to climb
about 100 steps

Picnic at Khandepar River - with Goans singing, cooking etc

It’s Summer time
Picnic Time
Bathing time
http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk38/5783911964/sizes/l/

We never heard of this popular and busy picnic spot.
All we knew was ‘kolem’ near Dudhsagar and we been there at least twice by Train.
This spot (Khandekar or handepar) is about 8-12 kms from Ponda city.
In the pic/ video clip you will see two spots.
The usual popular one is about 3-4 kms before the dam or bundh which is situated in the spice plantations.

Unfortunately, we did not enjoy the flow at the dam as today  (31.5.11).
was the day when they remove the plates to level the river water flow due to oncoming  monsoon.
There may be a charge of Rs.10 per head for visitor picnicking at dam/bund area (spice plantation but there is nothing much to see).

Loud music, dance, food like pulay, biryani (one can see in the clip a group carrying a large ‘anddo’.
Once can even see spot friong of rechad bangdde’ etc on a gas stove.
Weekend must be pretty crowded here. We visited on Tuesday.
About 10 minutes walking involved from the main road as no vehicle allowed inside.
No food or ice creams availabe around. One has to carry his own.

Here are some pics

More info
The main source of Opa water works is River khandepar originating in Karnataka flows through Dudhsagar water fall.
It serves about 30% of the Goa’s population (portable water) including Panaji and Agxi.
There are 21 mines in one kilometre radius of Khandepar River, so water lever may soon dries up.
Opa water works is the first water treatment plant of Goa. Its operation started during Portuguese regime in 1957
It’s about 2 kms away from here (we have not visited opa treatment plant)

Venerable Agnelo D'Souza (Fr. Agnelo)

We left 11.30am for a short tour to Rachol Seminary, Church,
cemetery, Pilar
and Anjuna, back home at 7pm with two hour lunch break at a Rachol Restaurant.

Sadly, we could not get inside  the house at Anjuna as we were
told the inmates
of the house had gone out (Fr. Agnelo  brother's
(grand?)daughter- in-law and
her son). Hope I got it right.
Fr. Agnelo D'Souza was born in Anjuna Gaumvaddy in
1869.
Died at Rachol Seminary on 20th November, 1927
He was buried there at Rachol Cemetery.  see pic
His mortal remains were transferred to Pilar in 1939

When Fr. Agnelo was buried, the priest who performed the final rites
said 'I have just laid a Saint to rest'

'Saiba Sant Agnel, mhojea oslia patkeamchoi ugddas kor'
