St. Anthony Feast, Deussua Chinchinim

Happy Feast of St. Anthony - Deussua, Chinchinim
16th June, 2013
First time I been here, the crowd and the feri was massive.
It was the the last mass at 12 noon and the people for the Mass was about 1800.
I  wonder how many people were there for the Feast high? mass at 10.30am.
Besides, there were masses at 6, 7.30 and 9am.
Another interesting part of the feri is the salt fish like solye etc which reminded me of Ispisanta Fest, Margao.

Traditional Ox-driven Oil Mill

Heard about 'Tela Ghanno'  (Oil Mill), also saw it 2-3 times in the museums but  did not have a clue as to how it was actually working until our visit to Bollear, Agonda in Canacona on 23rd May 2013.

The owner of the mill in this tradition for over 50 years.
Busy 7 days a week particularly during April - May, people seen coming here early morning and go home in the evening.
The oil extracted by this traditional method is considered to be pure and good for health.
Average 100 kg copra or khobrem crushed per day
The mill remains closed during monsoon

Ox or bull driven mill that crash copra giving out oil and the by-product is called 'Pendd' (coconut cake), as kids we even ate it.

I remember the noisy Mills that run on diesel power with smoke chimney on the roof top. It was somewhere in the mid 70s it was changed over to Electric power motors.

Konkan Fruit Fest 2013 (Margao)

Organised by BSG (Botanical Society of Goa)
in association with BPS Club Margao and MMC, Margao.
At BPS Club, 10 - 12th May 2013

I remember attending Konkan Fruit Festival in the year 2005
Then again in 2008 the fifth festival, 2011, 2012 and now 2013.
However, I think there was a break of about 2 years in between where NO KFF was held
(in the year 2009 & 2010 ? )

Holy Cross Feast, Baradi 3.5.13

Feast of Holy Cross,
Baradi, Velim, Goa

I thought I read on newspaper that the feast high mass is at 11.30am
Looks like I read it wrong, the feast mass was at 9.30am followed by a lower mass at 11.30.
That’s why we arrived very late,  at the end of the last mass.
At least we got a blessing by a young or new priest - watch video

First time have been here was in 2006 (a part of our South Goa Pvt. tour) see a pic below

Here are some pics and  videos of today 3.5.2013

After 9 days of preparations, there come the Feast Day..
Special  things for  the festive day be it in the form of dress code, violin,
Decorations, snacks / drinks and not forgetting the special  litany on
the day – We call it ‘basha’ ladin

Litany can be sung in various tunes – low tempo, med. and fast.
If you want to finish it quickly, we used quicker mode etc
(usually when litany started late, rainy day or one has to attend more
than one litany same evening etc)

But on the feast day it is 1.5 times or 2 times longer than the normal
mode or tempo.
We did not have that many festive tunes, may 2 or 3.

Here is one  (in Latin)
On 3rd May 2013
Recorded at Velsao

I have also added beautiful festive pics / scenes of Baradi cross feast.
I am sure you will love it
