The fort was built by
the Portuguese in 1617 on the site of an earlier Muslim structure.
The fort
finally being deserted by the Portuguese in 1892 lies in ruins since
then.
However, new BJP Government has said on the floor of the house (Assembly on 8.4.2013) that this fort (along with Alorna fort) will
be taken up for restoration on priority basis.
Other forts will be taken up on phased manner.
