Feast of St. Ignatius Loyola (Basilica of Bom Jesus) 31.7.2013

Believe me or not, for many years or till I was about 20,  I thought  the above life-size Image we see on the Main Altar is of St. Francis Xavier (SFX). The Sacred body of  SFX in a silver casket lies in this church so the Saint on the Main Altar got to be SFX...  I believed so did many others.

What profits a man,” Ignatius asked Francis, “if he gains the whole world and loses his soul?”

'aplo atmo pirdar korun, koslo faido akho Sounsar jikon ?'

That was the turning point of Francis life who then joined Fr. Ignatius and was ordained in 1537.

St. Ignatius Loyola  founder of  the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) was born on 24th Dec. 1491,
15 years before SFX and died 31st July 1556 at 65,  4 years after SFX  died at 46 (3.12.1552)

The feast celebrated at Bom Jesus Basilica on 31st July 2013 and the feast Mass was at 6pm
Archbishop  Filipe Neri Ferrão was the Main Celebrant and there were about 50 co-celebrants
